Thanks to the bands, all of the artists involved and everyone who came out to 'A Semester's Weight In Paper' last night at RGRS. The show was a huge success; the music was great, the art was fantastic and it was amazing to see so many people come out to support local artists. We'll deffinetly be doing this again in the Spring.
Do For It Records have put together a video complitation of performances and clips from their Sampler Showcase.
A Lot of our good friends are featured in the video so you should check it out.
Chris Flemmons (of The Baptist Generals) was at Dan's last week for Episode XXX
and shot a pretty cool video to help promote bands for this years' NX35 Music Conferette.
We're really excited to announce we'll be hosting a special evening with Fair To Midland at the Curtain Club on Saturday, January 3.
They've been writing and rehearsing new material lately and have hinted at an extra long set including "new songs" and "old stuff".
Our good friends The Timeline Post and The House Harkonnen will opening the evening, so show up early.
This will most likely sell out quickly!

from PIAPTK...
"Denton, TX Blooze Punk band New Science Projects caught my eye (and ears) with a strange collaged package that arrived in my PO Box a year ago. It had a bizarre note, some stolen vacation photos from the singers job as a photo developer at Walgreens, and some other random stuff thrown in. We are finally getting around to working together on this amazing 6 song 8 inch on clear, square lathe cut. Only 35 made! Each one comes in a totally unique hand collaged cover!
Songs: Paco, Iron Bars, Blood (acoustic), When You Go, Sister Apocolypse, The Vessel."
Thanks to the bands and everyone who came out to Dan's Silverleaf last night for Episode XXIX.
It was great to see everyone for the holidays and the show was absolutely perfect.
Paste Magazine has named Denton, TX the "Best Music Scene of 2008". Click here to read the full article or see the image below.
Here are a few of the bands mentioned:
The Baptist Generals
Somewhere in the vicinity of Daniel Johnston’s bedazzled innocence and Jeff Mangum’s death-haunted poetry lies Chris Flemmons’ shambolic, surrealist folk.
RTB2
Ryan Thomas Becker drives this duo with slashing, blues-inflected, post-punk guitar work, propelled by Grady Don Sandlin’s MG’s-redolent backbeat.
Sarah Jaffe
Like fellow Texan Jolie Holland, Jaffe is blessed with both a trenchant lyrical pen and a vocal instrument perfectly suited to mainlining her effortlessly crafted, heartbroken tunes straight to the soul.
Doug Burr
The best track on Burr’s 2007 release On Promenade is always the one you just listened to, but if you want a chilling experience, read up on the Graniteville, S.C., train disaster while listening to Burr’s song about it.
Dust Congress
Nick Foreman’s chamber-folk group—comprised of marimba, upright bass, bassoon, trumpet and Foreman on banjo, bass drum and hi-hat (all at once)—has gradually gelled into one of the most intriguing live ensembles in Denton. The band is currently hard at work on its first full-length.
Shiny Around The Edges
Shiny distills early Velvet Underground dissonance and percussive primitivism and wraps both around Thurston Moore's destroyed guit...ah the heck with it. They're loud and weird. You need to see em.
Daniel Folmer
One of the most promising young songwriters in a city teeming with them, Folmer's indie-folk combines an undeniable gift for melody with a transparent lyricism and an innate feel for detailed, haunting imagery.
Thanks to everyone who came out to J&J's last night for Episode XXVII.
The bands were exceptionally great, and we couldn't have asked for a better crowd/audience. I've never seen the basement quite so packed, and we really appreciate yall coming out to support good music.
Thanks to everyone who came out to The Lounge on Elm St last night for EPISODE XXV.
The bands were absolutely amazing, and it was great to see so many people out supporting good local music.
Notes From Underground will be releasing a double-disc CD this Saturday on Paper Stain Records. The release will feature a live set, recorded on half-inch tape by Justin Collins at Rubber Gloves and mixed and mastered by Matthew Barnhart, and will include one of twelve home/live recordings spanning from 2004 to 2007. To celebrate the release, Geistheistler (Justin and David from "Notes") will be playing a show at the Fra House on Saturday, September 6th with Rival Gang and Picc Line.
The House Harkonnen will be performing Weezer's "Blue Album" and "Pinkerton" tonight at the Double-Wide in Dallas
to celebrate Alex's 24th birthday, along with the Ween cover band Vinegar and Syrup.
This will probably be HK's last performance together with Alex, Dan, Doty and Keith. ("say it aint so")
