A Very Knee Pad Christmas
August 2006
Part of
guTTerTh Live: Episode Six.
For as long as anyone can remember the North Pole has been the home of Santa Claus. Every Christmas Eve, Santa and his reindeer travel over the rooftops delivering gifts to children around the world. He and his helpers work all year long making toys and presents for Christmas. They love their job, knowing the joy their work will bring ot the children. It is fun for them and they have always finished on time for santa's deliveries. But there was one year, not so long ago, that Santa almost missed Christmas.

In happened on a dark wintry night only a few days before Christmas. That night, cold gusty winds from the North caused the falling snow to swirl and drift around Santaland. But Santa's house, his workshop and the barns where he kept the sleighs and the reindeer formed a protective circle that tamed the wind and snow. A light from a large window of the workshop fell warmly across the white floor and illuminated the flakes of snow as they fell. It was going to be a very white Christmas.

Inside the workshop a bright fire crackled in the large fireplace. The elves were working hard on the toys. They were painting faces on the dolls, putting wheels on the wagons and runners on the sleds, making hats for the wooden soldiers, sorting the games, and much, much more.

Santa sat at his desk checking his list of children, while Mrs. Claus sat in a rocking chair near the fireplace sewing him a new hat. The workshop was cozy and peaceful. And then... Santa disappeared.

Two days prior, Timothy Fondren had been throwing nickels into the wishing well at Twin Valleys Mall. As the busy crowd pushed and jostled their way past him, seemingly blind to others aroudn them, he closed his eyes and with his last nickel he wished that Christmas never existed.

The Fondren family piled into the car en route to their annual winter community service endeavor. Every year they would help serve food to homeless people at the local soup kitchen as a way to give back to the community. But something was different this year. Not the same old familiar faces Timothy had seen in years past...
Video: "Distortion"
As Timmy ladled, what was to be some peoplesonly meal of the day, he realized that everyone getting served had been shorter than him... much shorter than him. And had ears that were pointier... much pointer than his. And their cheeks were rosier... much, much much rosier than his. Who were these little fellas?

Timmy set down his ladle and began socializing wiht the people he had fed. Inevitably, the subject of Christmas came up. "I can't believe it doesn't exist anymore! I can't even feed my family or keep them warm" came the grumbles from around the room. As he looked around he realized that the small people accompanying him at the table were in face "Santa's little helpers!" What have I done? The elves are homeless, thought Timmy.
Video: "Song A"
Timmy ran through the snow. Leaping ove rmelted puddles and fallen pine trees. He found his way back to the Twin Valleys Mall. He dug his hands into his pockets searching for a coin, or anything to make a wish with. He hegan to cry when he realized he had nothing left. Just then, a large bearded man walked up to him. Opened his hands and handed him one shiny nickel. Timmy grabbed the coin and quickly closed his eyes as he threw it into the well. When he opened his eyes the man was gone. But it began to snow. Timmy shouted "I do believe in Christmas! I do! I Do!"
