Star-Telegram - Neighborhoof Review Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
The Ft Worth Star Telegram reviewed Ryan Thomas Becker's new album "Neighborhoof" today!

"Neighborhoof, Denton singer-songwriter Ryan Thomas Becker’s latest solo effort (he also logs time in buzzy duo RTB2), frequently feels like a drunken, late-night amble through a record store — and that’s meant as a high compliment. Wonderfully unpredictable, Becker proves adept at delicate ballads and brawling, kitchen-sink rock songs that cartwheel out of the speakers at an alarming rate. Becker’s seventh solo album (his last, Uncomfortable Index Fingers, was released in 2005) is concise — 35 minutes — but feels far more expansive, thanks in part to his ability to easily change gears. In fact, of the 11 songs on Neighborhoof, none better sums up the record’s feel and Becker’s approach to making music than My Cannonball, a brief tune that begins as a tender acoustic lament before jackknifing into oblivion. It’s a terrific bit of sonic whiplash, one that should send those seeking some adventure with their local music scrambling back to the beginning of the album. Becker has a slew of area performances on the docket, beginning with Saturday’s installment of the Good Show live music series at Lola’s Saloon Sixth (he’ll play with RTB2). With support from the Beaten Sea, Becker will celebrate Neighborhoof’s release Tuesday in Denton."
